I spent a couple of days in the Elbsandstone mountains checking out some of the bouldering venues. Mostly I was in the Bahratal which is located just South of Pirna, near the town of Berggießhübel. The area contains around 10 bouldering sectors, each with upwards of 30+ problems. All climbing here is on Sandstone boulders and walls. The forest is littered with a bizzare range of blocks in all shapes and sizes, and you'll have to apply a good variety of climbing styles.

Basler Jura and the Vosges Mountains |

Enjoying the European Football Championships and getting some good climing done: the best of both worlds . Basler Jura was wet, wet, wet! I tried some boulder problems, but just ended up trashing myself on slippery holds. I'm sure the bouldering is great when the conditions are right. I'd never been to the Vosges area in the North-East of France before, but now I can highly recommend it. It has some great red sandstone quarries with beautiful routes. Click on read more to see some of the pictures I took.

A climbing partner of mine made a trip to Albarracin in October 2007 and was all praise for this fairly new bouldering area. His description was of a magical forest with huge, red boulder stones and giant roofs, which offered a wide variety of problems and still had near endless potential. So instead of visiting one of the usual bouldering haunts this Spring, I decided to give this area a try.

Having just returned from the Harz, I wanted to post some of the pictures that I took. The Okertal area has really changed since I was there in 2004. The original sectors have been developed to include a range of new problems, and parcours with different difficulties have been added. These make for a nice change of pace and are a good way to get to know the different sectors.

The weather is looking up and it's time to get out and do some adventuring . I'll be heading to the Harz in May to toughen up and do some old projects, and then to a fairly new bouldering area in Spain called Albarracin in June. I've heard a lot of good things about this place and I'm excited to see it first hand.
Due to internet connection problems, I won't be updating anything in May, and will only be able to answer emails sporadically. Happy climbing.
